　　罗茨风机是容积式风机的一种，有两个三叶叶轮在由机壳和墙板密封的空间中相对转动，由于每个叶轮都是采用渐开线，或是外摆线的包络线，每个叶轮的三个叶片是完全相同的，同时两个叶轮也是完全相同的，这样就大大降低了加工难度。叶轮在加工时采用数控设备，确保了两个叶轮在中心距不变情况下，不管两个叶轮旋转到什么位置，都能保持一定的极小间隙，从而确保气体的泄露在允许范围内。两个叶轮相向转动，由于叶轮与叶轮、叶轮与机壳、叶轮与墙板之间的间隙极小，从而使进气口形成了真空状态，空气在大气压的作用下进入进气腔，然后，每个叶轮的其中两个叶片与墙板、机壳构成了一个密封腔，进气腔的空气在叶轮转动的过程中，被两个叶片所形成密封腔不断地带到排气腔，又因为排气腔内的叶轮是相互啮合的，从而把两个叶片之间的空气挤压出来，这样连续不停的运转，空气就源源不断地从进气口输送到出气口，这就是罗茨风机的整个工作过程。

　　罗茨鼓风机与其它类型的鼓风机相比较，有如下优点，

　　1) 在很宽的压力范围内(10?10-2Torr)，具有稳定的大抽速，能迅速排出突然放出的气体，弥补了油封机械泵和扩散泵的不足，很适宜作机械增压泵之用。在有水封或油封的情况下，能直排大气抽真空，也适宜作大抽速的粗鼓风机。

　　2)设计先进，结构合理，转子间及转子与泵体间均有间隙，互不接触，不用润滑，摩擦损失小，可用较低的动力获得较大的抽速，有显著的节能效果。

　　3)转子有良好的几何对称性，工作平稳，能用提高转速的办法获得大抽速，从而做到结构紧凑、体积小、重量轻。

　　4)泵腔内不发生气体压缩，加之运动件之间有间隙，对抽吸气体中的灰尘和水蒸汽不敏感，因此可抽出可凝性蒸汽。

　　5)泵腔内运动件无需用油润滑，能避免油蒸汽对真空系统的污染，有利于获得无油真空。

　　6)无需进排气阀，结构简单，噪声较低，泵腔内运动件互不接触，不易损坏，维护费用低。

　　7)启动快，能在短时间内达到极限真空。
